Rick Davies, notable for laying the foundation of Supertramp, passed away at his home after health struggles.
The rocker’s death was confirmed by the boy band, sending condolences to the wife of the departed soul.
In the statement, the group announced “death of the Supertramp founder, Rick Davies after a long illness,” losing his battle to cancer.
It was revealed that the singer breathed his last “at his home on Long Island on September 5th. We had the privilege of knowing… and playing with him for over fifty years.”
In 1970, he joined hands with a fellow artist Roger Hodgson to start the iconic group. They later added Dougie Thomson, John Helliwell and Bob Siebenberg.
During their time, the band created hit tracks including The Logical Song, Give a Little Bit and Breakfast in America, which earned them a Grammy nomination.
After facing disputes, Roger decided to pursue a solo career following their record Famous Last Words.
However, they reunited to tour together in 2015 when Rick was diagnosed with cancer (multiple myeloma), which ultimately pushed them to cancel the shows.
The legendary musician leaves behind his wife Sue, who took the role of band manager in 1984.
