Aziz Ansari shares his honest views on working with Keanu Reeves

Aziz Ansari made his directorial debut alongside one of his own favourite actors, Keanu Reeves.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, Ansari spoke to PEOPLE at the Toronto International Film Festival during the world premiere of his new movie Good Fortune.

The director praised Reeves for working with him and fellow co-star Seth Rogen on the comedy.

"You know, when you meet him it’s intimidating because he’s an icon of the screen, and I grew up watching him and all his films,” Ansari said on the red carpet. “So it was pretty mind-blowing to meet him and then, on top of that, work with him. He’s now a great friend and collaborator.”

Ansari went on to say about Reeves, "I didn’t really know what to expect because he’s pretty mysterious, you know? But he was just so game."

According to the official synopsis, Good Fortune centres on Gabriel — a “well-meaning but somewhat clumsy angel” played by Reeves — who interferes in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).

Written and directed by Parks and Recreation alum Ansari, the film also stars Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh. Good Fortune hits theatres on Oct. 17.
