Sombr made his 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, bringing classic, awkward gen-z energy to the event where he also got a major accolade.
The Undressed singer also performed two of his hits 12 to 12 and Back To Friends, which has skyrocketed him to fame in recent months.
In an iconic clip that perfectly captures the alternative rock singer’s persona, he was called by the pre-show correspondent, Kevan Kenney, to receive his award (also called the moonman) for winning in the Best Alternative track category.
“Get on up here Sombr. That moonperson belongs to you,” Kevan stated to the 20-year-old who looked visibly confused at being handed the trophy.
After being reassured that he had actually won in the category, Sombr laughed and said, "Thank you so much! I did not expect this. I thought this was a prank, Back to Friends is something I wrote myself. And I made it at a really low point. So to win this is insane."
The rising star then thanked his fans for voting for him, as well as his family and the people on his team before dramatically leaning in to smooch the award.
Notably, Sombr also joked about his invisible waist with another interviewer and talked about how he cannot be PR trained.
Sombr gained a significant amount of attention when his tracks Back to Friends and Undressed went viral on TikTok in March of this year.
