Harry Potter's original director, Chris Columbus, has dismissed hopes of a possible cast reunion.
The acclaimed filmmaker, known for blockbuster hits such as Home Alone and Gremlins, was speaking in an interview about his new film, The Thursday Murder Club.
When the conversation shifted to his first two Harry Potter films, The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, Columbus admitted that a reunion is highly unlikely.
The reason, he revealed, is the ongoing political controversy surrounding the book’s author, J.K. Rowling.
When asked about the possibility of adapting the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for the big screen, Columbus responded: “It’s never going to happen with all that political stuff.”
Speaking further about Rowling, the director explained: “Everyone in the cast has their own opinion, which is different from her opinion, which makes it impossible.”
He also revealed that he has not spoken to Rowling in nearly a decade but continues to maintain close ties with the original stars. “I keep very close contact with Daniel Radcliffe — I just spoke to him a few days ago,” he said.
“I still have a great relationship with all the kids in the cast,” Columbus added.
