Sofía Vergara and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who shared the screen on Modern Family from 2009 to 2020, proved their friendship goes far beyond the sitcom.
The 53-year-old actress, best known for her recent role in Netflix’s Griselda, flew in especially to watch Ferguson take centre stage in Shakespeare in the Park’s Twelfth Night.
The TV favourites reunited in New York City for the play’s opening night on August 21.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the 49-year-old actor opened up about the experience, sharing how it all came together.
“She texted me out of the blue saying, ‘I think I’m going to be in New York, can I get a ticket?’ Of course I helped her,” he said.
Furthermore, he admitted that he initially thought she was in town for other commitments, only to learn she had flown in just for him.
“She’s a good friend,” he said warmly.
Vergara had already attended the August 16 preview with Ferguson’s husband, Justin Mikita, and their five-year-old son, Beckett.
But with Mikita recovering from a broken foot and the Hot Pursuit actress fresh from knee surgery, the outing was quite the challenge.
“I sent a golf cart to collect them,” the Cocaine Bear actor laughed. “Beckett was the one I was the least worried about!”
Despite the obstacles, the Vergara had a wonderful time, later raving on Instagram, “You were amazing @jessetyler what an amazing show!!”
