Darius Rucker attended the 52nd American Music Awards to receive a special award for his contributions, the Veterans Voice Award.
The three-time Grammy winner has been committed to organisations like the Military Warriors Support Foundation and has also performed at events that support veterans, making a meaningful impact through his music.
"It's called the Veterans Voice Award, and I take that to heart big time because all of us can use our voice to support these brave men and women who are serving our country," the 60-year-old said in his acceptance speech.
The songwriter revealed that he had gotten to spend some times actively serving all over the world, which gave him a brand new perspective on life.
"You learn real quick what resilience looks like when you're sitting and talking to the military families, because the sacrifice isn't just the person in uniform, it's their spouse. It's their kids. It's their parents, it's their cousin...it's their friends,” Rucker added.
The Wagon Wheel singer shared that a veteran once told him that they are grateful to be serving worthy lives, adding that we as a community should be striving to become worthy of veterans’ sacrifices.
