3 new movies to watch this Labour Day weekend (Aug. 29, Aug. 31)

It’s officially the end of summer, and this Labour Day weekend you might not want to miss these amazing movies streaming on Netflix, Disney+ and Prime.

So, settle into your sofa, switch on the TV, and skip the endless scrolling.

Here are the top three movies you need to watch this weekend:

‘The Thursday Murder Club’ (2025) — Netflix

A cosy British murder mystery on a Friday night—what could be better?

Netflix has just dropped a star-studded adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling novel The Thursday Murder Club.

The film features Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie as a quirky group of mystery-loving seniors living in a retirement village. When one of their neighbours turns up dead, they set out to solve the case themselves. Who did it? What’s the story behind the crime? You’ll have to watch to find out.

‘Thunderbolts’ (2025) — Disney+*

Marvel’s new team-up movie has finally landed on Disney+. Though it earned solid reviews, it underperformed at the box office.

Thunderbolts follows a group of anti-heroes forced to join forces and save the world, but the response from fans was lukewarm, even among die-hard Marvel loyalists.

Still, with its early streaming release and strong reviews, it’s worth a watch if you’re in the mood for some high-octane action.

‘The Map That Leads to You’ (2025) — Prime Video

Not in the mood for action, mystery or murder? If all you want is a soft, romantic escape, The Map That Leads to You is your pick.

It has just the right amount of wanderlust and heart that romance fans love. Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline plays Heather, a recent graduate who sets off on a carefree European trip with her two best friends before starting her new life back in the U.S.

Along the way, she meets Jack (played by Riverdale’s KJ Apa), a charming New Zealander travelling with a map his grandfather made, marking all the places he once visited.

Heather and Jack form an instant bond, but their romance comes with an expiry date. The real question is—will she risk heartbreak for a fleeting, yet possibly life-changing love story?
