Oscar-winning and widely loved actor Brad Pitt has teamed up with Hollywood A-listers Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara to executive produce a Gaza drama titled The Voice of Hind Rajab.
Kaouther Ben Hania’s film is based on the true story of a six-year-old girl trapped under fire in Gaza.
Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner also join as executive producers, alongside The Zone of Interest director Jonathan Glazer and Roma filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón.
Several renowned companies are backing The Voice of Hind Rajab, including Britain’s Film4 and Saudi Arabia’s state-owned MBC Studios.
The film will premiere in Venice on Sept. 3 before moving to the Toronto International Film Festival for its North American debut.
The drama revisits the tragic killing of six-year-old Hind Rajab in January 2024. Rajab was travelling in a car with her four cousins and her aunt and uncle when Israeli forces opened fire as they attempted to flee Gaza City.
Ben Hania’s film draws from voice recordings between Rajab and Red Crescent volunteers, who tried desperately to keep her calm while arranging an ambulance.
Israel has denied having troops in the area where Rajab and her family were killed. However, independent investigations using satellite imagery by The Washington Post and Sky News found Israeli tanks were present at the time.
A detailed report by London-based research group Forensic Architecture, in collaboration with Al Jazeera, also mapped 335 bullet holes across the car’s exterior.
