Hollywood A-list actor Tom Cruise is always known for risking his life for action, pushing the limits for his breakout franchise, Mission: Impossible.
In fact, Cruise’s entire career is recognised for his willingness to take risks.
Over decades of filming the MI franchise, audiences have watched Cruise dangling from the side of an aeroplane, walking across skyscrapers, or throwing himself off cliffs while riding a motorcycle.
For the actor, stunts have always been part of the job. But in the recent MI instalment, The Final Reckoning, Cruise suffered a serious accident on set, raising the question: is this the end for him?
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, Entertainment Weekly reported that Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie discussed the film’s high-stakes biplane showdown between Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his nemesis Gabriel (Esai Morales).
"Oh, this almost broke my back," Cruise admitted.
After this life-risking accident, curiosity has grown over whether Cruise will continue performing his own stunts, or if retirement might finally be on the horizon.
One thing is for sure: the box office titan isn’t quitting, and these accidents aren’t enough to make him step away.
Although the Oscar-nominated actor isn’t as young as he once was, Cruise clearly knows how to stay in peak shape. Maintaining that level of fitness is crucial for pulling off those insane on-screen stunts, no matter his age.
