Tom Cruise recently opened up about his painful experience while performing the iconic plane stunt in Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning.
In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the 63-year-old actor, alongside director Christopher McQuarrie, revealed that the pain was brutal.
The filmmaker said, “This separated the joints in Tom’s fingers from the force, so by the time we finished this sequence, your hands were absolutely swollen.”
He referred to the scene where Cruise had to dangle off the side of a biplane while holding onto a strap of the seatbelt. The Top Gun: Maverick star added, “Oh God, that was brutal.”
In May 2025, Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning premiered, which marked the final film in the decades-old franchise.
Over the years, Cruise has remarkably pulled off deadly stunts throughout the films, such as climbing the Burj Khalifa, jumping off a cliff from a motorcycle, the high altitude low opening jump, and hanging from a plane.
This made Jack Reacher actor a legend in the film industry for pulling off all the action scenes without a stuntman.
Notably, during the screening of the latest instalment, Cruise showed gratitude towards the crew and cast, “Thank you for your many years of partnership and unwavering support.”
For the unversed, Mission Impossible Final Reckoning also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rahmas, Hannah Waddington, and Pom Klementieff.
The movie is now available to watch on streaming platforms.
