James Gunn talks brother’s ‘perfect’ ‘Peacemaker’ cameo

James Gunn attended the season 2 premiere for DC’s Peacemaker where he opened up about his brother, Sean’s cameo in the show.

Speaking to People at New York City's AMC Lincoln Theater, he explained why he brought over Sean and some other familiar DCU faces to the series, "For this show, it was really about what we needed for the story of Peacemaker.”

In the trailer, John Cena’s titular character can be seen attempting to enter the Justice Gang by auditioning in front of Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn) and Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), who were all introduced in Superman.

"We have the two Justice Gang members and not Mr. Terrific [Edi Gathegi] because Mr. Terrific is too together and kind of too nice for those three people," James explained. "Those 3 people are much meaner, so we needed three people that would pick on Peacemaker in that scene, and that was perfect."

The director also delved into why he decided to continue the show, "I think the first season of Peacemaker is really about this character coming to terms that he has these demons that have been motivating him, have been pushing him for his entire life.”

James has been receiving praise from fans of the DCU as well as newcomers for the direction he has takes with the new projects.
