Prince Harry blasted for trying to 'upstage' Prince William, Kate Middleton

Prince Harry has come under fire for what royal experts are calling a “PR stunt” during last week’s VJ Day commemorations.

While King Charles led the nation in marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day at the National Memorial Arboretum, the Duke of Sussex left a wreath and handwritten note at the Burma Star Memorial. 

The tribute, which referenced his late grandfather Prince Philip’s service in the Pacific campaign, was reportedly placed after the King and Queen had departed to avoid distracting from the official service.

However, royal commentators were quick to accuse Harry of staging the moment for publicity. 

The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson suggested the Duke timed it deliberately: “A cynic might argue that Prince Harry maybe saw that as an opportunity to leave a letter there.”

Royal author Robert Jobson went further, branding the gesture “a little bit too slick” and part of “Operation Rebuild Harry.” 

He added: “It was the King’s day. The Prince and Princess of Wales absolutely should have been there. Prince Philip himself would not have liked a stunt on a day that wasn’t about him.”
