Prince Harry wrote that he and William asked King Charles not to marry Queen Camilla
King Charles’s former butler, Grant Harrold, is pushing back on Prince Harry’s explosive Spare narrative, insisting Charles, Camilla, William and Harry “got on so well” during his seven years in royal service.
In his new memoir, The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service, out August 28, Harrold recalls a warm family dynamic that clashes with Harry’s account of “complex feelings” about Camilla and her “long game” for marriage and the Crown.
Harrold even shares a wedding-day memory from 2005: William and Harry cheekily decorated the newlyweds’ car with “Just Married” before sprinting after them as they drove to Birkhall, hardly the vibe of a simmering feud.
He also paints Charles as “very calm,” hard-working, and far from out of touch, noting he “didn’t once raise his voice” during their time together.
Harry, who dubbed Camilla the “Other Woman” in Spare, wrote that he and William asked their father not to marry her.
Harrold’s version suggests a more cohesive private picture, raising fresh questions about how different royal realities can be behind palace doors.
