King Charles and Queen Camilla were spotted together at Balmoral for the first time this summer.

On August 17, His Majesty personally drove his wife to a Sunday church service at Crathie Kirk, near the royal castle. The royal couple appeared relaxed as they waved to onlookers, Charles behind the wheel of his Audi Q8 e-tron while Camilla smiled from the passenger seat.

The sighting comes as royal fans were left gobsmacked after only just learning that Charles doesn’t need a license to drive — one of the many perks of being a monarch.

Both royals opted for smart attire for the outing. The King, 76, wore a camel coat over a suit and tie, while the Queen, 78, complemented her green and black feathered hat with a chic ensemble.

Their arrival marks the start of their annual holiday in Scotland, a tradition slightly delayed this year as Charles attended commemorations for VJ Day.

On Friday, August 15, the monarch led a solemn ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, laying a wreath and leading the nation in a two-minute silence to honour those who fought in World War Two. He also delivered a poignant message, recorded earlier at Clarence House, urging people to remember the legacy of the wartime generation.

“Those heroes of VJ Day gave us more than freedom; they left us the example of how it can and must be protected,” Charles said.

He added, “The greatest weapons of all are not the arms you bear, but the arms you link. That remains a vital lesson for our times.”
