Mariah Carey speaks out on the toughest moment of her career

Mariah Carey has opened up about the less-than-glamorous side of filming the music video for her festive classic All I Want for Christmas Is You.

Speaking to Allure, the 56-year-old singer admitted the 1994 shoot for her holiday anthem was far from effortless.

“I was so freezing in my Santa suit,” she recalled. “It was definitely not chic and effortless.”

Despite the discomfort, Carey revealed she still treasures the original outfit.

Someone asked me, ‘Do you still have that one?’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I use the same one every year.’”

The track, part of her Merry Christmas album, has since become a global holiday staple, earning three Guinness World Records titles, including the highest-charting holiday song on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019.

The songstress shared that its beginnings were humble, written “on a little DX7 or Casio keyboard” in a small room in her Upstate New York home.

“I just wrote down everything that reminded me of Christmas… all the things that made me feel festive,” she said.

Over the years, the Emotions singer has revisited her festive persona with updated music videos, including one for the song’s 20th anniversary featuring her twins.

She has also donned variations of her Santa-inspired look, from glamorous gowns to Nutcracker-themed costumes.
