Australian actress Rebel Wilson directed a musical film titled The Deb starring Charlotte MacInnes, Natalie Abbott and herself in it.
Following the movie premier in Toronto International Film Festival in September last year, the actress is now facing legal threat from her co-star Charlotte and one of the production companies.
Lawyers representing Charlotte issued a concerns notice to Rebel on Thursday, August 7. The issue indicated their intention to sue her for defamation in Western Australia over allegations she has made on Instagram since last year.
The comedian has been embroiled in various issues over her directorial debut and this has added onto the messy saga.
Rebel claimed that Charlotte told her she had been assaulted by a producer during filming. However, after being offered a role in his stage show along with a record deal, the actress changed her story.
“The publications carried seriously defamatory imputations damaging to Ms MacInnes' personal and professional reputation.”, Charlotte’s lawyer Patrick George wrote in the notice, according to Deadline.
The notice stated that Rebel’s move to disclose that information was “improper, unjustified and lacking in bona fides”.
Along with this, one of the production companies behind The Deb accused Wilson of sabotaging its release.
