David Corenswet is set to take on a powerful real-life role in the upcoming sports drama Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story, portraying former John Tuggle, a player whose legacy extends far beyond the football field.
The film traces Tuggle’s journey as the final pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, a title commonly known as “Mr. Irrelevant,” given to the last selected player.
Despite the odds, Tuggle went on to become a respected member of the New York Giants, earning admiration for his determination and spirit before his life was tragically cut short by cancer at the age of 25.
Directed by Jonathan Levine, the film aims to capture both the emotional depth and uplifting essence of Tuggle’s story.
According to People, Levine described Corenswet as the “heart and soul” of the project, praising his ability to embody both the charm and resilience that defined the late athlete.
Moreover, the cast also includes Isabel May as Tuggle’s partner and Michael Shannon as legendary Giants coach Bill Parcells, adding further depth to the narrative.
