Matt Smith has been tied to the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, after being snubbed from a 2019 feature in the series.
The Doctor Who actor is set to play a villainous role in the film slated for a 2027 release, with a star-studded cast including Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth.
Although the National Television award winner’s character in the upcoming movie has not been disclosed as of yet, the 42-year-old has talked about his unfruitful involvement in The Rise of Skywalker.
Matt stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2021, “It was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing, a big story detail. A transformative ‘Star Wars’ story detail,” referring to the role he was cast for.
The House of the Dragon star did not confirm who he would have played, but netizens speculate that it could have been the son of Emperor Palpatine.
“But it never quite got over the line. It was a big shift in the history of the franchise,” Matt told Josh Horowitz.
For the unversed, Ryan has confirmed his involvement with the movie, noting that it was going to be neither a sequel nor a prequel to the other films in the franchise.
Matt Smith will be appearing in the crime thriller called Caught Stealing, featuring Austin Butler.
