Ryan Gosling lands lead role in new 'Star Wars' film directed by Shawn Levy

Ryan Gosling joins ‘Star Wars’ universe for the upcoming movie Starfighter.

At Star Wars Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm revealed that Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling will be the lead actor in the brand new film titled Starfighter.

Acclaimed director of Deadpool and Free Guy, Shawn Levy will direct the movie.

The film is described as a standalone adventure and will revolve around an uncharted era in the galaxy far away set through five years after The Rise of Skywalker.

“This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” Levy said.

As reported by PRIMETIMER, the 44-year-old Canadian actor is being drawn to Jonathan Tropper’s “strong script and characters”.

• Filming begins: Fall 2025
• Theatrical release: May 28, 2027 (Memorial Day weekend)
• Positioning: Follows The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) as the next live-action Star Wars theatrical film
