The highly anticipated sci-fi film Project Hail Mary released its first trailer on June 31, 2025 starring Ryan Gosling as an unlikely astronaut.
The film is based on Andy Weir’s acclaimed novel where the protagonist Ryland Grace is a middle school teacher who finds himself on a mission to protect humanity due to a dimming sun.
The trailer released by MGM studios immediately caught attention due to its theme of reluctant heroism and tone of disorientation.
While talking to Variety, the 44-year-old Canadian actor who is also producing the film shared his excitement for this project at CinemaCon in April, 2025 describing it as “an insanely ambitious story that's massive in scope and it seemed really hard to make, and that's kind of our bag. This is why we go to the movies.”
The trailer progresses with an intense montage hinting at the suspenseful journey ahead with Harry Styles’ 2017 song Sign of the Times plays in the background.
The film stars Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, James Ortiz and Liz Kingsman alongside Ryan Gosling.
Directed by acclaimed duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the "Project Hail Mary" is set to release on March 20, 2026.
