Daniel Radcliffe is heading back to the world of magic, but this time there's not a wand-wielding wizard in sight.
The 36-year-old actor has signed on to voice a charming prince in Netflix's upcoming animated comedy Steps.
It is notably a fresh and funny spin on the classic Cinderella tale that puts the much-maligned stepsisters centre stage instead of the famous princess.
Rather than following Cinderella's familiar happily-ever-after, the film focuses on Lilith, voiced by Ali Wong, who accidentally plunges the kingdom into chaos after a stolen magic wand turns her sister Margot into a frog.
The unlikely pair must team up with Cinderella, voiced by Amanda Seyfried, and an unexpected troll companion to put things right.
The Harry Potter star joins an impressive voice cast that also includes Peter Dinklage as fearsome man-nanny Roderick, Young Mazino as the dashing Gef and Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother.
Co-director John Ripa couldn't hide his excitement over landing the British actor for the role, revealing Daniel brought a quirky charm and big-hearted humour that made the Prince unlike any audiences have seen before.
He also praised the actor's comic timing and versatility, calling him a joy to work with.
Meanwhile, co-director Alyce Tzue said the film was inspired by her own childhood, explaining she wanted to tell a story for anyone who had ever felt like an outsider.
She hopes Steps will remind viewers that kindness can rewrite even the most familiar fairy tale.
The role is another bold career move for Daniel, who has spent recent years carving out an eclectic career with unconventional film, television and stage projects far removed from Hogwarts.
Steps is set to premiere on Netflix later this year, promising a magical adventure with a very unexpected happily ever after.
