Quentin Tarantino has directed a total of six films with Michael Madsen, so the two Hollywood figures had formed a strong bond.
The Pulp Fiction director held a memorial service for the late actor at the Vista Theatre, which was also attended by the iconic actor’s co-stars, Daryl Hannah and Sean Penn.
At the event, the 62-year-old paid tribute to the star who died weeks prior by recalling a heated exchange between him and another deceased actor, Lawrence Tierney, who was fired by the director.
During the filming of the beloved director’s first film, the 1992’s Reservoir Dogs, The Devil Thumbs a Ride actor was disliked by cast and crew for his attitude and problematic behaviour.
Tarantino noted that although Tierney would yell at him, he never considered it to be much of an issue and persevered with the shooting until one time.
“And then all of a sudden, he f***ing yells at me or something. He does something disrespectful. The other times, he was disrespectful but he didn’t quite mean it. This time he meant it,” he stated.
This lead to his firing, which the award-winning filmmaker revealed went over well with Madsen, since he told him so.
He quoted the actor saying, “And I want you to know that I respect that, as my director. I respect that. I respect it as a director, I respect it as a captain and I respect it as a man. So I’m on your side, buddy. Thanks.”
Notably, Madsen passed on July 3, and his official cause of death was said to be cardiac arrest at the age of 67.
Yes, Michael Madison had seven children, a girl Jessica, sons Christian and Max with his second wife and sons Luke, Kalvin and Hudson with his third.
