Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 has been handed a surprise second-season renewal just days after the animated spin-off landed on Netflix.
Thus, proving the Hawkins universe is still buzzing with life.
The new animated series, set between seasons two and three of the hit sci-fi drama, takes fans back to the winter of 1985 as the Hawkins gang face fresh mysteries, creeping paranormal activity and the kind of small-town strangeness that never quite stays buried.
Showrunner Eric Robles told Tudum that working on season one had been “incredibly rewarding”.
He added that seeing fans old and new connect with the characters had been “truly special” and confirming he is excited to continue the journey.
Moreover, he also teased that season two will return to snowy Hawkins with the Hawkins Investigators Club back in action, as a new threat emerges from the town’s abandoned silver mines alongside the mysterious blue flower last seen in the Upside Down.
Robles also stressed that each season is closely connected rather than standalone, with storylines designed to weave together while carefully avoiding major canon-breaking elements from the original series.
Despite that, the show has already made an impact, debuting at number seven in Netflix’s Top 10 and ranking among the streamer’s top 15 animated launches, with a new voice cast including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Benjamin Plessala as Will and Braxton Quinney as Dustin.
Season two is expected to arrive on Netflix later this year.
