Princess Dianas former butler dedicates new memoir to her and Queen Elizabeth

Paul Burrell, former royal butler to Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II, is releasing a new book that promises to be his most candid yet, and this time, it’s personal.

Titled The Royal Insider, the memoir will hit shelves in September and is being described as Burrell’s most “honest” work to date, with “nothing out of bounds.”

The book draws from his decades inside the royal household, where he served first as Queen Elizabeth’s footman and later as a trusted aide to Princess Diana at Highgrove House beginning in 1987.

Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, Burrell, 67, explained that the passing of Queen Elizabeth in 2022, paired with his own recent reflections on mortality, pushed him to finally write the book.

“We thought that the Queen would be there forever,” he said. “We thought that she’d be at least 100, like her mother.”

“Because of her passing, and at the same time reflecting on my own mortality, I thought that I might not have much longer to write this down - so I better get it done.”

“Life is just a tapestry of memories, and then it’s over,” he said. “I wanted to share mine before it’s too late.”

Having spent over a decade working closely with the Queen and Diana, Burrell reflected on the lasting impact both women had on his life, calling them “incredible and inspirational.”

“[The Queen] saved me from myself,” he shared. “When I was just a young lad coming to London, I didn’t know anything about life. She looked after me — and for that, I’ll be forever grateful. She also looked after so many others behind the scenes.”
