Amazon’s TV executive, Vernon Sanders, teased the possibility of The Summer I Turned Pretty’s future following the release of its final season.
The third season of the show, currently airing on the streamer, fully adapts Jenny Han's novel series of the same name.
Han also serves as the showrunner and creator.
Speaking with Variety, Sanders shared that if there’s ever a chance of spinoffs, the decision would ultimately come from Han.
“You know, all plans lead with Jenny Han,” he said. “She’s known from the beginning how she’s wanted to do this, so we’ve been focused on getting the season right and ending it the right way.”
The executive added that once the entire show is released, they can discuss the story’s future with Han.
“She’s got new ideas that she’s been dying to tackle,” he said. “So whatever Jenny wants to do, we want to do it with her.”
However, as the current season unfolds, it’s clear the story is wrapping up with three seasons at Amazon, though author Jenny Han is no stranger to spinning off her work.
