James Gunn proved to be a true fan of comic books, as he connected with Comic-Con attendees in a heartfelt moment.

The Superman director received a standing ovation from the crowd at the San Diego event, while he was joined by John Cena and Jennifer Holland for the panel for Peacemaker season 2, a show that was created by the 58-year-old.

During a surprise visit to the Lee & Friends panel, the former screenwriter got choked up as he appreciated fans, and the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

“I make these kinds of movies because I respect and love what these people do so much, and I’m going to be very honest right now, I was looking at the art that you guys did…and it touches me so deeply…it’s so beautiful,” James said, with a shaky voice.

The newly formed DC Studios co-CEO also noted, “The reason I’m so happy to be here with you guys, is because this is the real fans here.”

Notably, James’s Superman has received widespread critical acclaim and has been a box office hit in North America.

When was ‘Superman’ released?

Superman came out in theatres on July 11 from Warner Bros. and DC Studios.
