Prince Harry once revealed the touching “duty” he took on for Prince George after the little royal’s birth, and it’s resurfacing just in time for George’s 12th birthday on July 22.
In his bombshell 2023 memoir Spare, Harry opened up about the joy he felt when William and Kate welcomed their first child back in 2013, marking Harry’s debut as an uncle.
"I WAS AN UNCLE," Harry wrote.
"Willy and Kate had welcomed their first child, George, and he was beautiful."
Overflowing with excitement, Harry shared the role he envisioned for himself as George grew up, and it was all about fun and guidance.
"I couldn’t wait to teach him about rugby and Rorke’s Drift, flying and corridor cricket, and maybe give him a few pointers about how to survive life in the fishbowl," he added, hinting at his desire to help George navigate life in the royal spotlight.
As George’s birthday approaches, another royal protocol looms large: the future king will soon be subject to a centuries-old rule that dictates heirs to the throne should not travel together.
With Prince William first in line and George next, this travel restriction, which William himself faced after turning 12, could soon kick in for George too.
While Harry may no longer play a close role in George’s life following his royal exit in 2020, his sweet words from Spare offer a glimpse of the bond he once hoped to nurture with his nephew.
