James Gunn has revealed what the upcoming Superman movie is all about and the story might not sit well with the current United States administration under President Donald Trump.

In an interview with The Times of London, the Head of DC Studios revealed that Superman is about an immigrant that came from another place.

He said, “Superman is the story of America. An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy director also shared that he doesn't care if anyone takes any offence to the film specifically considering the ongoing unrest regarding immigration.

The 58-year-old filmmaker said, "It's about human kindness and obviously there will be jerks out there who will take kindness as offensive.”

He admitted that the film is about politics, adding, “on another level it’s about morality.”

This tease about Superman comes amid ongoing crackdown by the Trump administration against immigrants.

According to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), it has detained over 151,000 illegal aliens and deported over 135,000 in the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

When will Superman release?

Superman, starring Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet, is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
