Buckingham Palace shared a message in a bid to honour Prince Edward, who successfully completed a key task assigned by King Charles.
The Duke of Edinburgh recently performed several royal engagements during his multiple-day trip to Canada, a country close to the monarch's heart.
On July 6, the royal family dropped photos of beaming Edward from his Canada tour on social media.
The statement alongside the pictures reads, "In Prince Edward Island, HRH celebrated the 150th anniversary of the PEI Regiment, where he serves as Colonel-in-Chief, and joined a Freedom of the City parade in Charlottetown."
"The Duke also met with the Abegweit First Nation, took part in an education forum for The Duke of Edinburgh’s @International_Award, and connected with a range of youth organisations."
"In Toronto, HRH celebrated Canada’s military and police services, with visits to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, HMCS York, CFB Trenton, and the Toronto Police Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force."
At the end of his tour, Prince Edward joined Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa and, as Honorary Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, he paid a visit to the Musical Ride stables.
There are reports that Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie, will be given more important tasks in the future as they are key assets of the royal family.
