Denis Villeneuve, who is a die hard fan of 007 has officially been appointed as the director for the upcoming James Bond movie by Amazon MGM Studio.

MGM studios made an official announcement on social media, which read: “Amazon MGM Studios sets Denis Villeneuve as director of next James Bond film.”

Amazon distribution company revealed another major appointment as they continued: “Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer. As previously announced, Amy Pascal and David Heyman will serve as producers.”

The Blade Runner 2049 director has produced masterpieces like Dune and Arrival in recent years which earned him four Academy awards nominations.

The British filmmaker commented on his new designation: “I have grown up watching James Bond with my father since Dr. No with Sean Connery and I am a die hard fan of 007.”

“I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.To me, he's sacred territory. " The Oscar nominee continued.

His appointment comes after a big disruption emerged in the James Bond franchise as long-serving producer Barbara Broccoli and her brother Michael G Wilson gave creative control to Amazon MGM Studios in a lucrative deal.

Denis Villeneuve is currently focusing on Dune: Messiah which is the third film in the Dune series and expected to release in 2026.
