The polarizing meme that showed Ryan Gosling as Black Panther has made a return after a shocking reveal in the Marvel Comics.

The reveal was of Ketema, who is another version of the Protector of Wakanda, being a white man.

Typically, the hero has been portrayed as a black person, both in the comics and the adaptations. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther has been played by Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright.

After Ketema revealed himself to be a young white man in Marvel Knights: The World To Come #1 (2025), the meme of Gosling came back into circulation.

It further led to speculation from fans wondering if Gosling could really take on the role in future Black Panther films.

“Guys the meme is real now…. Marvel Comics Introduces T’Challa’s White Son Ketema As Future Black Panther And King Of Wakanda,” read a post from u/Solid-Move-1411 in the Avengers subreddit.

This first issue of Marvel Knights: The World To Come comes from Christopher Priest and Joe Quesada, and sets up a world after T’Challa’s death.

It goes back and forth in time to depict the impact of this major happening, and it is revealed at one point that Ketema is indeed the Black Panther’s son.
