King Charles is reportedly heartbroken over the strained relationship with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, amid ongoing tensions with Prince Harry.
Sources close to the palace told Grazia that Harry's recent actions have only worsened an already fragile relationship.
“The relationship had been severely compromised before this court case,” the insider said.
“The Oprah interview and Harry’s revelations in Spare have been incredibly damaging. Very simply, Harry has behaved in such a way that his father cannot trust that what is said between them will remain private.”
The insider added that there’s been “a complete breakdown of trust” between the King and his youngest son.
“The King does not like conflict, and he would love for this all to be resolved, but Harry has to earn the trust back. The ball is in his court in that respect,” one source said.
They added: “The King loves his son, and he is very sad he has not spent any time with Archie and Lilibet. But Harry hasn’t made a reconciliation easy."
Still, Charles reportedly has not shut the door completely. “The door is always open as far as the King is concerned. He’s a magnanimous man, not a malicious man but his priority is the preservation of the monarchy.”
The revelations come after Prince Harry’s bombshell BBC interview earlier this month, where he lashed out at the royal household following his High Court defeat over his downgraded UK security.
In the interview, Harry described the legal loss as a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up” and blamed the royal institution for influencing the decision.
He also claimed the King "won't speak" to him due to the ongoing dispute and admitted he doesn’t know “how much longer” his father has.
