Prince Harry is facing explosive backlash following his bombshell BBC interview, and now, one royal expert claims people believe the Duke of Sussex should be “prosecuted for treason.”
The shocking reaction comes after Harry, 40, made a pointed remark about his father King Charles’s health, stating he doesn’t know “how long he has left.”
The King, 76, is currently undergoing cancer treatment, and the comment struck many as cold and “deeply unpleasant.”
During a live taping of the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential, royal commentator Richard Eden revealed: “I have had several people contact me to say that Harry should be prosecuted for treason.”
He continued: “[Harry’s] tone was completely at odds with the Palace’s message of optimism about the King’s treatment. It felt unnecessarily dark.”
The legal notion of treason, while rarely invoked in modern times, has stirred conversation due to the historic Treason Act of 1351, which included “imagining the death of the sovereign” as a criminal offense.
The explosive interview came on the heels of Harry’s legal defeat in the UK Court of Appeal, where he failed to reinstate his taxpayer-funded security, something he’s been battling since stepping down from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California with Meghan Markle.
In his BBC sit-down, Harry expressed frustration and pain, saying: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
However, the comment about his father’s health, paired with claims that the Palace played a role in stripping his security, has left royal watchers fuming.
Although Buckingham Palace has chosen not to comment directly on Harry’s remarks about King Charles, they released a blunt statement in response to the court ruling: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”
