As Princess Charlotte turns 10 today, her milestone birthday is sure to be filled with celebration and love, but also a touch of bittersweet emotion, according to royal insiders.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's only daughter was born on May 2, 2015, and is now officially in double digits, a moment every parent knows comes with both joy and nostalgia.
Speaking to the Express, royal commentator Phil Dampier revealed that while Prince William and Kate will no doubt be proud of the young woman their daughter is becoming, the occasion will likely be "tinged with sadness."
“Like all parents, William and Catherine will delight in Charlotte growing into a teenager and fine young woman,” Dampier said, “but that is always tinged with a feeling that time flies by and she won’t be a child for much longer.”
This year’s birthday may feel especially emotional, as it comes after a challenging few months for the royal family.
Princess Kate continues her cancer recovery, and King Charles III is also undergoing treatment.
Despite the family’s recent health struggles, insiders say the day will still be one of warmth, gratitude, and family closeness.
Charlotte, full name Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, is the younger sister to Prince George, 11, and older sister to Prince Louis, seven.
She was born at 8:34 a.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, and just hours later, a glowing Kate and William stepped out on the Lindo Wing steps to introduce their new daughter to the world.
At the time, Kensington Palace released a statement thanking the public for their “warm wishes” and extended gratitude to hospital staff for their care.
