The official Spotify account of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK was briefly hacked on Thursday, sparking fans to call out the service for vulnerable security.
The hackers changed multiple details on the band’s official Spotify page, with fans taking screenshots of the changes and posting them on social media.
The official Spotify page of the worldwide sensation originally had the feature image of their Shut Down promotion.
However, it was changed to a controversial photo of another K-pop band, Kiss of Life.
The image was a screenshot of Kiss of Life's recent livestream, where they wore gold chains and askew hats with 50 Cent’s In da Club playing in the background.
Many viewers of the livestream found the act offensive, with some accusing the group of cultural appropriation.
Along with the unsettling featured image, the official description of BLACKPINK’s Spotify account was also changed.
It appeared that the group’s managers or Spotify attempted to regain control of the account, as the picture and description kept changing and there was no profile photo at one point.
BLACKPINK and the audio streaming giant have not responded to the alleged hack at the time of writing.
K-pop band Kiss of Life apologised in a handwritten letter posted on their Instagram.
“We really want to sincerely apologize for the content that was uploaded that caused so much disappointment to our fans,” the apology read. “We have to seem calm on the outside, but the time leading up to this letter has honestly been hard.”
Kiss of Life expressed their admiration for “old school hip hop,” which they say has a profound impact on their work.
The four members acknowledged that their livestream went “too far” and was “culturally insensitive.”
