Meghan Markle is facing renewed criticism over her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, with one royal expert claiming the Duchess needs to “leave the house” instead of trying to profit off her millionaire lifestyle.
Jack Royston, Chief Royal Correspondent at Newsweek, told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that Meghan is playing it too safe and needs to step out of her comfort zone if she wants her media ventures to truly resonate with audiences.
“You can’t just monetise your own life,” Royston said. “Your millionaire lifestyle is not interesting enough to people who are struggling."
"You have to push it, meet people who disagree with you, stop having love-ins with friends. Get out there and summon from within yourself something more.”
Royston suggested the inspiration for the show may have come from people around Meghan hyping up her hosting skills.
“She’s got a little home farm she uses to cook and make crudité boards, and someone probably said, ‘You make the best boards!’ So she’s like, ‘I’m going to make it into a TV show.’”
Meghan’s new show features her “reimagining the genre of lifestyle programming” as she along with her celebrity friends roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.
The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
