Princess Charlotte holds a unique distinction among Princess Diana’s grandchildren as she’s the only one to be christened at the same location as her late grandmother: the historic St Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Charlotte’s 2015 christening carried extra emotional weight as it was held at the same church where Diana herself was christened back in 1961, creating a touching link across generations.

Charlotte and her siblings, Prince George, and Prince Louis, all wore a replica of the iconic Honiton Lace christening gown that was originally commissioned by Queen Victoria for her eldest daughter.

The original gown was retired after 163 years of royal service, last worn by Lady Louise Windsor in 2004.

The late Queen Elizabeth II then commissioned her longtime dresser Angela Kelly to create a faithful replica, now used by all royal babies, including George, Charlotte, Louis, and Archie.

Where were the rest of the royal children christened?

Charlotte’s siblings, Prince George and Prince Louis, were both christened at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace, breaking with the Sandringham tradition.

Prince Archie, son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was christened in July 2019 at Windsor Castle’s private chapel, with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland in attendance.

The Sussexes’ daughter, Princess Lilibet, was baptised in a private ceremony at the family’s California home in March 2023.
