Prince William’s biggest blunders: From ‘dirty dancing’ to ‘torrid’ affairs

Prince William has enjoyed a relatively clean image in the media when compared to his younger brother, Prince Harry, but the next in line to the British throne has not been immune to the occasional scandal!

In fact, Prince Harry, in his explosive memoir Spare, claimed that he was often made the scape goat to shield William’s image when his older brother would land in trouble, and there sure is proof of this to be found in some of William’s biggest blunders on record.

Here are just some of the times the Prince of Wales found himself in hot waters.

Prince William’s rift with Harry

Perhaps one of the most enduring and damaging nail in William’s side has been his ongoing feud with brother, Prince Harry.

In a bombshell from his 2023 book Spare, Harry even accused the Prince of Wales of physically assaulting him!

"He set down the water, called me another name, and then came at me… He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dogs' bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me,” Harry wrote of his and Wills’ altercation at his UK estate Nott Cot.

Prince William never responded, as the royal family maintained a ‘no comment’ policy.

Torrid rumours amid Kate Middleton’s health struggles

As recently as just last year, William found himself in the middle of fresh affair rumours in the absence of his wife Kate Middleton from public facing duties.

As Kate recuperated from a surgery, rumours about William having an affair started doing the rounds online on X (formerly Twitter).

They were fanned by Late Show host Stephen Colbert, who said on air, “The kingdom has been all aflutter by the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Internet sleuths are guessing that Kate's absence may be related to her husband, William, having an affair.”

Right about this time, old reports of Wills being involved with a certain Rose Hanbury gained momentum, until Kate announced her cancer diagnosis, putting to rest all such baseless allegations.

Lazy Wills?

Prince William also garnered a reputation as being somewhat lazy, and was even nicknamed ‘Work-Shy William’ at one point, thanks to limited royal engagements on his end.

When he skipped the Commonwealth Day Service in 2017 to go skiing in Verbier, Switzerland instead, tabloids had a field day, even linking him to Australian model Sophie Taylor, also there vacationing, reported Newsweek.

Of this, William famously told BBC, “"I'm concentrating very much on my role as a father, I mean I'm a new father, and I take my duties and my responsibilities to my family very seriously and I want to bring my children up as good people and with the idea of duty and service to others as very important.”

‘Dirty Dancing’ with Prince William

During the same Verbier skiing trip, Prince William found himself in even more hot (or cold) waters, when photos of him shaking a leg with some women at a late-night bar were released by The Sun.

The tabloid went with an explosive headline that read, “WHAT WILLS KATE SAY? Prince William dirty dances with TWO beauties, gyrates as model 'slut drops' and puts hand on woman's waist in new embarrassing footage during lads' ski holiday.”

Safe to say, the scandal may have been controlled by the royal press team, but the damage was done, with royal expert Katie Nicholl saying, “It's safe to assume that Kate will be far from happy about this."
