Trump and King Charles: Could America become 'royal' again?

King Charles could be preparing to make a historic offer to US President Donald Trump—one that might see America rekindle its royal ties and even join the Commonwealth in a move that would make the US “royal” again.

Despite Trump’s publicly critical stance on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, sources claim the US president has “great respect” for King Charles and the British royal family.

According to Richard Eden of the Daily Mail, discussions have resurfaced regarding the United States becoming an “associate member” of the Commonwealth, a global organization representing 56 nations with a combined population of over 2.7 billion people.

The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) first proposed this idea during Trump’s first term, reportedly with the backing of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source close to the discussions revealed: “This is being discussed at the highest levels. It would be a wonderful move that would symbolize Britain’s close relationship with the US.”

“Donald Trump loves Britain and has great respect for the Royal Family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this.”

While the US declared independence from Britain in 1776, this would not prevent it from becoming the Commonwealth’s 57th member, initially as an associate nation before potentially attaining full membership in the future.

One of the key factors in this proposed move is Trump’s admiration for King Charles, whom he has described as a “really good person”.

In footage released in late 2024, as part of Tucker Carlson’s docu-series Art of The Surge, Trump can be heard speaking warmly about the British monarch.

“Hopefully, he’s going to be well, because he’s a really good person. Camilla is fantastic. You get to know them so well.”
