Meghan Markle is making headlines after it was revealed that she would be appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show—but it was one unexpected detail in the teaser that caught fans by surprise.

It was announced on Wednesday that the Duchess of Sussex, 43, would make her first daytime television talk show appearance in three years, set to air the following day. However, in the preview for her segment, Meghan introduces herself as "Meghan Sussex" instead of using her well-known maiden name, Markle.

This comes shortly after the Duchess spoke about her attachment to the Sussex title in an interview with People magazine.

The title, which was given to Meghan and Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II upon their wedding in 2018, holds deeper meaning for her now that they share it as a family.

"It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children. I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me," she explained.

Meghan also reflected on how her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, may one day ask about their parents' love story.

“I think as the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’ I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex,” she added.

This isn’t the first time Meghan has publicly emphasized her preference for using "Sussex" over "Markle." In her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, she corrected her friend Mindy Kaling when the Office star referred to her by her maiden name.

"It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now," Meghan said on the show.

She further elaborated on the significance, saying, "You have kids and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, this is our family name, our little family name."

As Meghan steps back into the public eye with her Netflix series and talk show appearances, fans continue to take note of how she is shaping her identity post-royalty.

What is Meghan Markle’s show 'With Love, Meghan' about?

As per Netflix, Meghan’s new show will see her “reimagine the genre of lifestyle programming” as she along with her celebrity friends roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.

The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
