What happened to Julian Sands? Unfortunate tale of actor lost in heights

The search for Julian Sands came through major development over the weekend, after a body was found in the vicinity of Mount Baldy.

The Killing Fields star disappeared in the San Gabriel Mountains in January while he was there on a hike.

Since then, the state authorities have knuckled down in search of the British actor with the cooperation of his family.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department previously ceased the search due to extreme weather conditions, including an increased threat of avalanches.

However, they resumed it last week, noting that the current bout of search included "over 80 Search and Rescue volunteers, deputies, and staff. Their efforts were supported by two helicopters, and drone crews," according to the sheriff's office.

The family of Sands’ also reached out to the authorities involved in the search for the first time last week, expressing their gratitude for working "tirelessly" to find the Arachnophobia star.

"We continue to hold Julian in our hearts, with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer," they said.

On Saturday, a coterie of hikers found a body near the place where Sands had gone missing, alerting the sheriff's department of the significant finding.

The sheriff’s office detailed the findings in a press release, noting that identification of the found human remains "should be completed next week at which time we will update this press release."
