Phillip Schofield confesses to longstanding affair and cover-up.

Phillip Schofield, the esteemed TV presenter known for his work on This Morning, has come forward and admitted to being involved in a relationship with a significantly younger man who was a colleague on the show.

The veteran presenter made the candid admission in a bombshell statement to the Daily Mail, confessing that their connection surpassed mere friendship. Schofield described the relationship as "unwise but not illegal."

In a further admission, he revealed that he had lied about the affair to various parties, including his employer ITV, colleagues, friends, and even his agents at the management firm YMU.

In his sincere apology, Phillip  admitted to deceiving The Mail on Sunday, the sister paper of the Daily Mail, which initially broke the exclusive story about his relationship with the younger man earlier this month.

He acknowledged that he had also misled his lawyer regarding the story that the publication intended to write about him.

Schofield chose to make this statement through the Daily Mail, taking responsibility for his actions and expressing his regret for the misrepresentation surrounding the story.

"The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning.

I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning."

"Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man  and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than a just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over..."

"I am resigning from ITV with immediate effect, expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me."

While The Mail is privy to the identity of the younger man involved, they have made a conscious decision not to disclose his name.

With his exit from ITV, it appears that any potential plans for a "prime time" show, which was rumored to have been offered to Schofield by the network as a consolation for leaving This Morning after his remarkable two-decade tenure, have now been shelved.
