Demi Lovato Camp Rock role because Selena Gomez rejected it

Demi Lovato has to thank Selena Gomez.

Demi Lovato’s Mitchie Torres role in Camp Rock would have gone to Selena Gomez if she hadn’t rejected it.

The information was disclosed in a 2020 interview with David DeLuise, who portrayed Selena's father on Wizards of Waverly Place, according to PopSugar. David confessed to Wildchat Sports that Selena had been offered and declined the starring role in Camp Rock so that Demi would get the part.

David tells a story about how he met Demi and then adds, "I've never really said this story, but they offered Camp Rock to Selena."

"Selena knew that if she passed on it, Demi would get the part. So, she passed on it, which was very nice of her to do."

Disney Channel viewers undoubtedly already know that Selena and Demi were best friends at the time.

The two became friends after meeting on the Barney & Friends set when they were about 10 years old, but they appear to have lost touch more recently.
