Ed Harris says he felt 'misled' over role in Taylor Sheridan's 'Dutton Ranch'

Ed Harris has opened up about his experience filming Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch, revealing he was left frustrated after discovering his role was far smaller than he had expected.

The four-time Oscar nominee, who portrays large-animal veterinarian Everett McKinney in the Paramount+ drama, said he initially agreed to join the series believing he would be one of its four central characters. 

However, midway through filming the first season, Harris said he felt his character had become "underused" and "inconsequential," prompting him to consider walking away from the project.

Speaking in a recent interview with Variety, the 75-year-old actor said he raised his concerns with the production team but received little reassurance about his character's future. 

Harris also expressed disappointment over the removal of a scene in which his character was due to sing in a bar, claiming he had been promised the moment when he signed on to the series. 

According to Daily Mail, the sequence was ultimately cut because it did not fit the tone of the episode, according to the show's producers.

Despite his frustrations, Harris completed filming and remains contracted for a second season. 

Moreover, he said he has since been told Everett McKinney will play a much larger role when production resumes.

Dutton Ranch, which follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they begin a new chapter in Texas, stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Annette Bening and Harris. 

The series has become the latest expansion of Sheridan's successful Yellowstone television universe.
