Kevin Sussman has warned fans not to expect The Big Bang Theory all over again when they tune into its upcoming spin-off, insisting the new series is "completely different" from the beloved sitcom.
The 55-year-old actor is stepping back into the shoes of comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom for HBO Max's Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, but says viewers should leave comparisons at the door.
Speaking about the project, Kevin explained that while the series still carries creator Chuck Lorre's trademark comedic style, it heads into entirely new territory with a sci-fi, multiverse twist.
"It's not comparable to the original show," he said, adding that the change in genre means fans can expect something unlike anything they've seen before.
Lessons in Chemistry actor revealed he was stunned when Lorre first pitched the idea.
The producer invited him into his office before revealing plans for a Stuart-centred spin-off featuring alternate-universe versions of familiar characters.
He joked that his immediate response was to check whether he was free, admitting the opportunity was impossible to turn down.
Despite spending more than a decade appearing in The Big Bang Theory, Kevin confessed he never imagined Stuart would one day become the star of his own series.
"I just want health insurance. I've always just wanted to work, so this was not on my bingo card," he admitted, saying the lead role came as a complete surprise.
The post-apocalyptic comedy also reunites fans with returning favourites Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler, John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke and Lauren Lapkus as Denise.
The story follows Stuart after he accidentally triggers a multiverse Armageddon by breaking a device created by Sheldon and Leonard.
