L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has died at the age of 59 after a battle with brain cancer
Jennifer Finch, the longtime bassist of influential rock band L7 has died at the age of 59 following a battle with brain cancer.
The band confirmed her passing in an emotional statement on Instagram writing "With a very heavy heart we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today. She had a long courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide. We love you Jennifer."
In a separate statement L7 described Finch as "our beloved bandmate, sister and friend" whose "fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity helped shape L7."
The band added "Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms... We love her beyond words and will carry her with us always. Rest in power our dear friend."
Finch revealed earlier this month that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
While doctors initially expected the disease to respond to radiation treatment complications led to multiple surgeries that left her with severe physical limitations. She had previously battled thyroid cancer in 2011.
Beyond L7 Finch performed with OtherStarPeople and the Shocker founded Little Pusher Records and built a career as a photographer.
She had stepped away from L7's upcoming U.S. tour to focus on treatment encouraging her bandmates to continue performing.
