Matt Damon gets mistaken for Brad Pitt at 2026 FIFA World Cup final
Actor Matt Damon was one of many stars spotted watching Spain face Argentina
Matt Damon found himself at the center of a light hearted broadcast blunder during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after he was mistakenly identified as Brad Pitt on live television.
The actor attended Sunday's showdown between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium alongside his wife, Luciana Barroso Damon.
While showing celebrities in the crowd, FOX Sports commentator John Strong said, “Brad Pitt among the fans here,” before co-commentator Stu Holden quickly corrected him, “That’s Matt Damon!”
The commentators later laughed off the mix-up during the broadcast.
“I’m letting you take the rest of these guys,” Strong joked. “I got cocky after the 1st three, and I missed an absolute sitter, so I’m done.”
The 55-year-old was among several celebrities at the World Cup final, which saw Spain lift the trophy with its first title since 2010.
The Odyssey star has long supported Argentina with his wife, who is originally from Buenos Aires and attended the match wearing Argentina team merchandise.
Recalling a previous Argentina victory, Damon recently told Seth Meyers, “The couple’s reaction to Argentina beating England ‘scared the s--- out of our dogs. Like, our dogs were in hiding.’”
