Matt Damon makes surprising career confession after turning 50

Matt Damon has revealed how hitting his 50s has completely changed the way he looks at life, admitting that time has become his most valuable possession.

The Odyssey star, now 55, opened up about his new outlook while promoting Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek poem. 

The Oscar-winning actor said reaching the milestone birthday made him rethink what truly matters.

"For me, time is the most precious commodity there is," Damon explained. 

"I want to be intentional with it and make sure I'm spending it exactly where I want to."

The Hollywood favourite said his life now revolves around three priorities, his family, his work and Water.org, the charity he co-founded in 2009 to help provide safe drinking water to communities living in poverty.

At home, he admitted that he is embracing a new chapter as his children grow older. 

The Good Will Hunting actor and his wife, Luciana, have been married for more than two decades and share four daughters, with two already having left home. 

Knowing the younger girls will soon follow has made the family cherish every moment together.

Professionally, he is equally focused. 

He hopes to continue building Artist's Equity alongside his close friend Ben Affleck, creating the kind of films they have always wanted to make rather than simply chasing big projects.

The Jason Bourne actor also admitted he has become far more at peace with life than he was in his younger years.

"I'm not chasing something," he said. "I just want to do work that I think is really stellar on my own terms."

Damon stars as the legendary Odysseus in The Odyssey, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. 

Reflecting on the film's themes, he said life has taught him to focus only on what he can control, accepting that hardship eventually touches everyone and that resilience comes from learning to move forward rather than fighting the inevitable.
