Terence Donovan has died leaving behind a remarkable six-decade career
Veteran British-Australian actor Terence Donovan has died at the age of 90.
His son actor Jason Donovan confirmed that the beloved star passed away peacefully in Melbourne on Saturday night sharing an emotional tribute alongside his brother Paul.
"Our Dad was a huge character, larger than life. He was our best friend ... our world! We will desperately miss him but we take comfort knowing we were all here by his side in his final days."
The family added that they were grateful for the life he lived writing:
"How lucky are we to have a Dad like you."
He rose to prominence through Australian television starring as Detective Mick Peters in Division 4 before taking on the role of Detective Senior Sergeant Vic Cameron in Cop Shop becoming one of the country's most recognisable TV stars.
In the 1990s Donovan joined Neighbours as Doug Willis shortly after his son Jason exited the soap. He later appeared in Home and Away as Al Simpson.
His career also included film roles in The Man from Snowy River and Breaker Morant alongside an extensive theatre career spanning more than six decades.
Jason also paid tribute to his father's role in supporting Australia's entertainment industry recalling how Donovan campaigned during the 1970s for greater local television production.
"Without people like my Dad we might not have seen the growth in the industry during the 70s and 80s."
