Kelly Bensimon speaks out after near-fatal uber crash

Kelly Bensimon has revealed she is "lucky to be alive" after a terrifying head-on car crash in Florida left her briefly unconscious and hospitalised.

The Real Housewives of New York City star was travelling in an Uber with celebrity chef Andrew Molen on Monday when their vehicle was struck head-on by an oncoming car while turning onto the busy Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. 

The violent impact caused the airbags to deploy instantly and knocked Kelly out for several seconds.

The 58-year-old was rushed to hospital alongside Molen and the other driver, where doctors carried out a CAT scan and X-rayed her badly injured right arm after she feared it had been broken.

Speaking after the ordeal, Kelly admitted the crash had left her shaken and in agony.

"I'm lucky to have walked away alive," she said. 

"My right arm is a mess. My head went straight into the back of the seat. It was really bad. I was unconscious for a couple seconds. I was freaking out. I thought I broke my arm."

Now recovering at home, the reality TV star said she is "totally out of it" and "in so much pain", recalling how her head struck Molen during the impact, leaving make-up marks on the deployed airbag.

Molen described the horrifying seconds before the collision, revealing he saw the other vehicle approaching and shouted at the Uber driver to "brake, brake". 

He claimed the car "came straight in at full blast", sending Kelly flying as the vehicle spun.

The celebrity chef also suffered injuries and has cancelled five cooking events this week while seeking further treatment for neck pain.

The pair had been in Florida filming their new digital lifestyle series, The Chef and the Housewife, while attending an open house for Kelly's $22 million luxury property listing.
